The Wood
Thornton Duesbury Wood
Miss Jean Thornton-Duesbury (who was the Leader of both the Maughold Brownie and Guide Units, that held their meetings in the Wood) bequeathed the Wood to The Guide Association, Isle of Man for the use, pleasure and fun of its members and future generations of the Guiding movement.
Located at Corany Hill, Glen Mona, Maughold, on the main coastal road between Laxey and Ramsey. Park at Dhoon School lay-by, cross the road to the opposite side and walk down the pavement away from the school, take the next entrance on your right (just behind the little white cottage) and then immediately look to your left you will see the gate into the Wood. You can’t miss it, the name is in big lettering on the five-bar gate.
The Wood is a great space and is ideal for outdoor unit meetings, days out, small camps, district event etc. There is a small hut – which has electricity, tables, benches and catering equipment, a Leisure Pod – that young members love using as a ‘Chilling Zone’ and toilets/washroom facilities.

There is also a badge available for anyone that has used The Wood whatever the activity. These can now be purchased from the Trading post on the Isle of Man.
